About the Artist
Shyam has had a very intersting journey from his first musical experience to saxophone. Shyam, to begin with was a keen vocal enthusiast. He was then selected to play saxophone at the school band.

During this time, he came under the tutelage of Late Mrs. Indu Krishnamurthy, who encouraged him to take up saxophone in the Carnatic system, which was very challenging.

The guru and the student embarked on a long journey of transposing and adapting complex patterns and notes of Carnatic music for the saxophone. He continued under her guidance and the training led to his arangetram held on October 16, 2005, in Dallas. This was very well received by the Dallas Carnatic music circle and paved way for bigger and better events for Shyam.

Shyam then came under the wings of Mr. Prasant Radhakrishnan. Prasant was instrumental in molding Shyam's style of play to better replicate the inherent nuances of our traditional system. Prasant is a premier disciple of Padmashree Dr. Kadri Gopalnath. Prasant is an established saxophonist both in the Indian and US musical circuits. He is adept in playing the Jazz music as well. He is the creator of Vidya, a music ensemble which bridges both the Carnatic system and the Jazz system. Prasant constantly challenged Shyam with compositions which strengthened his ability to play Carnatic music. He has also been invited to perform in the aradhana and will be playing there at on April 14th at 8 AM

Shyam has had the privilege of learning the art from none other than the Saxophone Chakravarthy Padmashree Dr. Kadri Gopalnath, himself. It was an honor that he could receive this training from the great maestro.

Another important influence in Shyam's music life is Mrs. Lalitha Seshadri. She is a well know exponent of Carnatic music and is a disciple of Carnatic Doyen Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer and Dr. Balamurali Krishna. She has instilled in him the concept of purity of note and the divinity of Carnatic music in a musician.
